How to fix missing voice, language or global_cfg file errors

If your navigation system cannot start and displays an error about missing voice, language, or global_cfg files, some essential navigation files may be missing, damaged, or stored incorrectly. Restoring a previous backup and reinstalling the update may resolve the issue.

This article covers the following error messages:

  • "Fatal error: No voice files were found"
  • "Fatal error: No language files were found"
  • "Global_cfg not found"

1. Restore your previous backup

If you created a backup before updating your maps, we recommend restoring it first.

  1. Connect your navigation system or SD card to your computer.
  2. Open the Naviextras Toolbox.
  3. Wait for the Toolbox to recognise your navigation system.
  4. Open the Restore or backup management section, depending on your Toolbox version.
  5. Select a backup created before the error first appeared.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your navigation data.
  7. Wait until the restoration is complete.

Important: Restoring a backup may replace your current navigation data and settings with those saved at the time of the backup.

If you do not have a backup available, or your navigation system does not support backups, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.

2. Download and install the update again

After restoring your backup:

  1. Open the Toolbox and check for available updates.
  2. Select the map update you previously installed.
  3. Download and install the update again, if available.
  4. Wait until the Toolbox confirms that the installation is complete.
  5. Safely disconnect your navigation system or SD card.
  6. Start the navigation and check whether the error has been resolved.

3. Check the navigation files

If the error continues, you can check whether the required files are present.

  1. Connect your navigation system or SD card to your computer.
  2. Open File Explorer on Windows or Finder on macOS.
  3. Locate the navigation software folder.
  4. Open the relevant folder depending on the error message:
Error message Folder to check
No voice files were found content/voice
No language files were found content/lang
Global_cfg not found content/global_cfg
  1. Check whether the required files are present in their respective folders.

What should you look for?

  • Voice files: The content/voice folder should contain voice files in .zip format.
  • Language files: The content/lang folder should contain language files in .zip format.
  • Global configuration: The content/global_cfg folder should contain a file named global_cfg.zip.

These files must remain in their original .zip format for the navigation software to recognise them.

Important:

  • Do not extract or unzip these files.
  • Do not rename, move, or delete any files.
  • Do not copy files from another navigation system, as they may not be compatible.

If the required files are missing, appear damaged, or have been extracted from their ZIP archives, please contact our support team before making further changes.

4. Check the SD card for errors (Windows)

If the required files appear to be present but the navigation still does not start, you can check your SD card for file system errors.

First, make sure the SD card is not write-protected. If it has a physical lock switch, check that the switch is in the unlocked position.

To check the SD card:

  1. Connect the SD card to your computer.
  2. Open File Explorer > This PC.
  3. Right-click the SD card and select Properties.
  4. Open the Tools tab.
  5. Under Error checking, click Check.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to scan the card.

If Windows finds errors, we recommend creating a copy of the SD card's contents, if possible, before allowing any repairs.

Once the check is complete, safely disconnect the SD card and try starting the navigation again.
