How to fix the "Inconsistent Data Found" error on Pioneer navigation systems

If your Pioneer navigation system displays the "Inconsistent Data Found" error during a map update, it means that an issue has been detected with the update files on your USB drive. The system stops the update to help prevent data corruption or loss.

You can usually resolve this issue by formatting your USB drive, collecting a new device fingerprint using Synctool, and downloading the update again.

1. Format your USB drive

First, format your USB drive to FAT32 to remove any existing update files and help resolve potential storage errors.

Important: Formatting will delete all files stored on the USB drive. Make sure you have saved any important files elsewhere before proceeding.

  1. Connect your USB drive to your Windows computer.
  2. Open File Explorer > This PC.
  3. Right-click the USB drive and select Format.
  4. Under File system, select FAT32.
  5. Uncheck Quick Format.
  6. Click Start and wait until formatting is complete.

A full format can help detect storage errors, although it cannot repair physical damage to the USB drive.

2. Collect a new device fingerprint using Synctool

After formatting the USB drive, collect your Pioneer navigation system's information again.

  1. Safely remove the USB drive from your computer.
  2. Switch on your Pioneer navigation system.
  3. Open the Navigation menu.
  4. Go to Settings > Synctool.
  5. Confirm that you want to prepare the USB drive for an update.
  6. Connect your formatted USB drive to the Pioneer system.
  7. Wait until Synctool finishes collecting the navigation system's information.
  8. Remove the USB drive when prompted.

Your USB drive now contains a new device fingerprint, which allows the Toolbox to recognise your Pioneer navigation system.

Important: Do not remove the USB drive or switch off your navigation system while Synctool is running.

For more information, see the official Pioneer Synctool guide.

3. Clear the Toolbox download cache

Before downloading the update again, clear any previously downloaded files from the Toolbox.

  1. Connect the USB drive containing the new fingerprint to your computer.
  2. Open the Naviextras Toolbox.
  3. Wait until your Pioneer navigation system is recognised.
  4. Log in to your Naviextras account.
  5. Go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Clear cache now!.

Clearing the download cache removes previously downloaded update files that may be incomplete or damaged. It does not remove your purchased updates or subscriptions from your account.

4. Download and install the update again

Once the download cache has been cleared:

  1. Open Updates in the Toolbox.
  2. Select your available map update.
  3. Click Install.
  4. Wait while the Toolbox downloads the update onto your USB drive.
  5. Once the installation is complete, safely remove the USB drive from your computer.
  6. Return the USB drive to your Pioneer navigation system.
  7. Open Navigation > Settings > Synctool.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to transfer the update to your Pioneer system.

Important: Do not remove the USB drive or switch off your navigation system during the update process.

Troubleshooting: If the error continues

If the "Inconsistent Data Found" message still appears after completing the steps above:

  • Try using a different USB drive, formatted as FAT32.
  • If possible, use a different Windows computer to download the update.
  • Collect a new fingerprint using Synctool and repeat the update process.
