How to fix the "License Error" on Pioneer navigation systems
If your Pioneer navigation system displays a "License Error" when transferring a map update from your USB drive, the system may be unable to verify the update's license. Updating your Pioneer system's firmware may help resolve the issue.
Follow the steps below to check your firmware and complete the map update.
1. Check for available Pioneer firmware updates
Some Pioneer navigation systems may require a firmware update to ensure compatibility with the map update process.
- Visit the official Pioneer website.
- Search for your Pioneer navigation system's model.
- Open the product page and select Support.
- Look for the Software & Firmware downloads section.
- Check whether a newer firmware version is available for your model.
If an update is available, follow Pioneer's instructions to install it.
Important: Only install firmware specifically intended for your Pioneer model. If you are unsure which firmware version is appropriate, please contact Pioneer Support before proceeding.
If you cannot find the required firmware on Pioneer's website, their support team may be able to help you check its availability.
2. Try the map update again
After installing the appropriate firmware update:
- Start your Pioneer navigation system.
- Collect a new device fingerprint on your USB drive using Synctool.
- Connect the USB drive to your computer.
- Open the Naviextras Toolbox and log in to your account.
- Download and install the available map update onto your USB drive.
- Safely remove the USB drive and reconnect it to your Pioneer system.
- Start Synctool again and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the map update.
For detailed instructions, see the Pioneer Synctool update guide.
