How to install a map update
Once your device is successfully connected to the Naviextras Toolbox, you can install available map updates by following the steps below.
1. Create a backup (if supported)
Backup availability depends on:
- the Toolbox version you are using
- the device model connected
Not all Toolbox versions or devices support backup creation.
However, if the Toolbox offers the backup option, or if the software asks you to create one, we strongly recommend completing this step.
Creating a backup helps protect your factory data and ensures that you can restore your device if anything goes wrong during the update.
2. Check for available updates
After the device is connected:
- The Toolbox will automatically display New content available if free, paid or software updates exist.
- You can review the list of updates before installing.
This includes:
- free map updates
- paid map updates
- software updates
- additional content compatible with your device
3. Install the update
- Select the update(s) you want to install.
- Choose Install.
- The Toolbox will start downloading and installing the content.
Important
Do not remove the device, close the Toolbox or shut down your computer during installation.
Wait until the process is fully completed.
4. Safely eject your device
After the installation has finished:
- Safely eject the device from your computer.
- Disconnect the cable or remove the SD card or USB drive.
This ensures that all data is written correctly and prevents file corruption.
5. Verify the update
Once your device is disconnected and restarted, check:
- whether the updated maps appear on your device
- whether the new content is available for navigation
If everything is correct, your update is complete.

7. If you experience issues
If you encounter any problem during the update (for example, failed installation, connection issues or update interruptions), please check the following:
- Restore from your backup (if available)
- Check your antivirus and firewall settings
- Verify that your USB cable or card reader is functioning correctly

- a screenshot of the error
- a detailed description of the steps you followed
- any error messages
