The Toolbox does not recognise my MG device

This article explains what to do if you have successfully transferred your MG vehicle data to a USB stick, but the Toolbox does not recognise your device, preventing you from completing a map update.

1. Check that you have selected the correct model

Before troubleshooting further, please make sure that you have selected the correct device model on the MG update website.

Selecting the correct model ensures that you download the Toolbox version that is compatible with your specific MG infotainment system.

Using an incorrect Toolbox version may prevent the program from recognising the contents of your USB stick.


2. Prepare information for troubleshooting

If the Toolbox still does not recognise your MG device after completing the checks above, we can help you investigate the issue further.

To assist us, please collect the following information:

2.1 Take screenshots

Please capture screenshots of:

  • the error message shown by the Toolbox
  • any other screen that may help us understand the situation

Screenshots allow us to examine the issue more precisely.

2.2 Compress the synctool folder into a ZIP file

The synctool folder on your USB stick contains device information that helps us verify compatibility.

Please create a ZIP file and attach it to your support request.

On Windows
  1. Right‑click the synctool folder.
  2. Select Send to.
  3. Choose Compressed (zipped) folder.
  4. A file named synctool.zip will appear.
On macOS
  1. Right‑click (or Control‑click) the synctool folder.
  2. Select Compress "synctool".
  3. A file named synctool.zip will appear.

3. Important reminder

Providing the screenshots and the synctool.zip file helps us:

  • verify your MG model
  • confirm whether the correct update method is being used
  • identify potential file issues
  • guide you toward the correct solution more quickly
